Neatly Real
Neatly Real is an American Pop/Rock / Indie Rock band formed in Austin, Texas by Gary Vandelay. The band, which started in October 2007, consists of Gary Vandelay (vocal, keyboard, guitar), Jason Toll (drums, vocal), and Nick Kruger (bass guitar, vocal). There is a self-released EP called Chapped Laps, released February 2008. The band sounds like a mixture of Squeeze, The Beatles, Joe Jackson, Wilco, and Weezer.
Gary Vandelay - Vocal/Piano/Guitar
Gary Vandelay played in various bands in the Houston, Texas area. Upon moving to Athens, Texas, Vandelay started the band, GWA in 2001, which turned out to be a recording project with Vandelay playing all the instruments.
Vandelay's first effort was a home-studio recorded four-song EP, Hard Rock Candy Sandwich under the band name, GWA, independently-released in February 2003.
Vandelay completed an EP with guest musicians in early 2007 (released February 2008), entitled Chapped Laps, recorded by Robin Hood Brians (ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan) with Grammy Award-winning producer Ken Lewis (Fall Out Boy, Soul Asylum, Beastie Boys, Lenny Kravitz) creating the final mix. Chapped Laps features artwork from Josh Clancy (Panic at the Disco, Hawthorne Heights).
Nick Kruger - Bass/Vocal
Nick Kruger transplanted to Austin from Michigan where he played bass in several funk and metal cover bands.
"I played in my first band with my cousin Matt Noe (now drummer with Carpal Tunnel) in a heavy metal band called Metal Arts. After Metal Arts I was a founding member of the heavy metal group Guardian Angel. After a four-year stint in the U.S. Navy I formed a new heavy metal band named Brave New World."
After Brave New World Nick helped form a few cover bands with his cousin and an R&B band or two. Moving to Texas, Nick worked as a session bass player, reknown in the Austin area. Nick grew up listening to diverse music ranging from Motown to Iron Maiden which honed his bass-playing skills.
